Senior Data Engineer

Engagement overview

Symantrix is hiring a Senior Data Engineer on behalf of a Client to build and scale the data platform behind their analytics and product teams. You will design reliable batch and streaming pipelines, model data for downstream consumers, and harden the platform for production. This is a fully remote, long-term contract engagement placed and managed by Symantrix.

Worksite

Fully remote within the United States, overlapping Central Time business hours. The engagement is managed end-to-end by Symantrix; the Client name is shared with shortlisted candidates.

Job duties

• Design, build, and operate batch and streaming data pipelines feeding analytics and product features.
• Model and document datasets for analysts, data scientists, and application teams.
• Implement data quality, observability, and alerting across the platform.
• Optimize warehouse performance and storage cost.
• Collaborate with the Client's analytics and engineering teams on requirements and delivery.

Required skills

• 6+ years in data engineering building production pipelines.
• Strong SQL and Python; experience with Spark or similar distributed processing.
• Hands-on with a cloud data warehouse such as Snowflake, BigQuery, or Redshift.
• Orchestration with Airflow or dbt and solid ETL/ELT design.
• Experience with streaming (Kafka or Kinesis) and data modeling.

Nice to have

• Experience with lakehouse architectures (Databricks, Delta, or Iceberg).
• Infrastructure as code and CI/CD for data workflows.
• Exposure to ML feature pipelines.

Education

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, or a closely related field; equivalent experience considered.

Experience

• Track record owning a data platform or a major pipeline in production.
• Self-directed in a fully remote, distributed team.
